1883
Creation of Stationeries JB WEIBEL. At the time, paper was produced from wood. The site will be the first in France to manufacture paper by extracting cellulose using the calcium bisulfite process. Several paper machines and hundreds of employees will work in Novillars. In collaboration with Count Hilaire de Chardonnet, inventor of artificial silk made from paper pulp (also known as viscose or rayon), development of the associated site of Prés de Vaux, the Chardonnet Silk Society created in 1889, which later became Rhodiaceta, today an industrial wasteland currently being rehabilitated by the city of Besançon.
1952
Taken over by CENPA which became “la Rochette CENPA” in 1960. The site becomes the specialist in parchment paper, intended for food packaging of fatty substances (butter, ham, etc.). The appearance of plastic packaging led to the decline of this activity during the 1980s. In 1982 the company became SIPN (Société Industrielle et Papetière de Novillars), then the site was taken over by NOVIPAP in 1987.
1989
Creation of the Papeterie du Doubs by Cartonneries Associés (OTOR Group). The site becomes one of the stationers of this integrated group. Transformation of the current machine to produce PPO (Corrugated Paper), recycled paper from packaging paper and cardboard (circular economy).
2004
Winner: 2 regional prizes from the French Quality Movement.
The company becomes a Refuge of the LPO (Bird Protection League).
2005
The sale of the OTOR group by its majority shareholder leads to the separation of the various cardboard and stationery factories. The Novillars site is taken over by Mr Soenen who also operates a cardboard factory in Belgium.
2009
2012
Withdrawal of Soenen: filing for bankruptcy and judicial liquidation.
2013
Creation of the company GEMDOUBS SAS by Messrs. Fady and Nabil Gemayel, takeover of the site; restart of industrial exploitation.
2014
ISEGA Food Certification.
2015
Production of 80,000 tonnes of recycled paper. Franche-Comté Business Trophy Prize 2015, “Economic Hopes” category.
ISO 9001: 2015 certification - Quality management systems.
ISO 14001: 2015 certification - Environmental management systems.
2017
Entrée au capital, aux côtés de Messieurs Gemayel, de la famille Chaoui, partenaire de confiance.
2017
In September 2017, Gemdoubs obtained a new ISO 50001: 2011 - Energy management systems certification. This certification means that Gemdoubs aims to reduce energy consumption through the implementation of an energy management system. (SME).
2019
Official launch of the CBN biomass cogeneration plant, which supplies steam to the paper mill.
